Within the framework of the “Reviving Greek Craftsmanship” initiative, the International Conference “Greek Craftsmanship: Contemporary Trends and Prospects” (April 16–18, 2026) and the group exhibition of craftsmanship graduates (April 17–26, 2026) were successfully held at Acropole Palace in Athens, highlighting the modern role of Greek craftsmanship within today’s cultural and productive landscape.
The activities were implemented by the Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with the University of West Attica, the University of Western Macedonia and the University of Thessaly, as part of the project “Preparatory Actions for the Implementation of a Model Strategy for the Restoration, Development and Repositioning of Greek Craftsmanship”, funded by the Recovery and Resilience Facility – NextGenerationEU.
International Conference
The conference showcased contemporary trends and development prospects of craftsmanship as a key field of cultural policy.
The Minister of Culture, Ms Lina Mendoni, stated:
“Craftsmanship constitutes a critical field of cultural policy, with significant potential to contribute to regional development, employment growth and the preservation of cultural identity.”
Greetings were also delivered by the Rectors Mr Charalambos Billinis, Mr Panagiotis Kaldis and Mr Theodoros Theodoulidis, highlighting the importance of cooperation between the public and academic sectors.
Exhibition of Contemporary Greek Craftsmanship
The exhibition of graduates’ works highlighted the high level of technical expertise and creativity, through contemporary interpretations of traditional techniques such as weaving, ceramics and woodcraft.

The successful completion of these actions confirms the importance of targeted initiatives that connect education, cultural production and economic development.
